Recently commissioned to carry out a fast repair on a pump set after the existing Discoflex coupling had failed again in a short period, with misalignment identified as the underlying cause. While Discoflex-style couplings are well suited to high-torque, minimal-backlash applications, they offer very little tolerance for alignment issues. Although this wasn't a critical piece of equipment and a full realignment wasn't expected, we supplied and fitted a jaw coupling instead — sized specifically to the set's kW and operating requirements, using spider elements to absorb minor misalignment while still performing the job effectively. The result: a setup costing roughly a quarter of the original Discoflex unit, with far simpler maintenance. While the spider elements may need replacing more frequently, they're inexpensive and take under 30 minutes to swap out, including guard removal and refitting.
